Xiamen Delegation Visits Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau (CORE) to Strengthen Marine Technology Cooperation
On February 4, 2026, a delegation from Xiamen City, led by Zhuang Rongliang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Xiamen Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor, visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. During the visit, the delegation paid a special visit to the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau (CORE) to gain an in-depth understanding of the Center’s latest developments in marine scientific research, technological innovation, and regional collaboration.
The delegation was received by Professor Gan Jianping, Director of the Center and Chair Professor of the Department of Ocean Science. Professor Gan provided a detailed introduction to the Center’s development history, research directions, international collaboration projects, and its achievements in marine environmental monitoring and ecological protection in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Vice Mayor Zhuang Rongliang highly commended the Center’s outstanding performance in the field of marine science and technology. He noted that Xiamen, as a coastal city, is actively promoting the integrated development of the marine economy and technological innovation. He expressed hope for closer cooperation with CORE in areas such as talent exchange, scientific research collaboration, and the commercialization of research outcomes.
The visit not only deepened mutual understanding between Xiamen City and HKUST in the field of marine science and technology but also laid a solid foundation for future scientific research cooperation between the two sides. CORE will continue to leverage its platform advantages to promote regional collaborative innovation in marine science and technology, contributing to the national strategy of building a strong maritime country.
